Pepper-Spray Robber Identified by Underwear Sentenced to 8-10 Years After Casper Police Pursuit
CASPER, WY — A Casper man has been sentenced to serve between eight and ten years in state prison following an unusual investigation into a violent robbery. The incident, which originally unfolded in late 2024, involved a suspect who deployed pepper spray against a victim to steal their property before fleeing the scene, initiating a high-speed police chase.
Responding to the initial robbery, Casper police officers pursued the suspect's vehicle through local streets. Although the suspect initially managed to evade direct apprehension during the vehicle pursuit, investigators recovered key physical evidence and surveillance footage from the crime scene. In a unique turn of events, detectives were able to positively identify the suspect due to highly distinctive branding on his exposed underwear, which was captured clearly on security video during the struggle.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with robbery, felony fleeing, and reckless endangerment. In court, prosecutors presented the surveillance footage and the matching clothing item recovered during the execution of a search warrant. The District Court judge handed down an 8- to 10-year prison sentence, noting that the use of pepper spray constitutes a chemical weapon deployment that posed severe health risks to the victim and the public during the pursuit.
