Police Vehicles Rammed in Portadown and Newry During High-Speed Cross-Border Pursuit
A major police operation is underway after several police vehicles were rammed during a cross-border pursuit that spanned Portadown and Newry. The high-speed chase was initiated following a robbery on March 8, 2026.
The pursuit began after suspects committed a robbery and attempted to evade law enforcement by crossing regional borders. In their desperate bid to escape, the suspects used their vehicle to ram multiple police cars, causing significant damage. The chase moved through Portadown and eventually towards Newry, with officers from various divisions attempting to intercept the fleeing vehicle.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) spokesperson condemned the reckless behavior of the suspects, highlighting the risk posed to both officers and members of the public. "The ramming of our patrol cars is an unacceptable assault on officers who are working to keep communities safe. We are utilizing all available resources, including assistance from cross-border colleagues, to locate the individuals responsible," the spokesperson said. Detectives are urging anyone with dashcam footage or information about the incident to contact them immediately.
