Popular Logan Square Bakery Struck by Burglaries Three Times in Six Months
A popular bakery in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood has been hit by a string of break-ins, with the business being targeted by a burglar three times over the course of just six months. The repeated crimes have taken a heavy toll on the bakery's finances and morale.
Repeated Break-Ins Strain Small Business
The owner of the establishment shared their frustration after the most recent break-in, which followed a familiar pattern. Surveillance footage from the incidents shows a lone offender smashing a glass door or window in the early morning hours, entering the shop, and quickly searching the cash register and back office for cash. Each break-in has resulted in hundreds of dollars in stolen funds, alongside thousands of dollars in property damage and lost operating hours.
"It is incredibly demoralizing to build a business and have someone repeatedly violate your space," the owner stated. The cost of replacing glass doors and upgrading security systems has put a significant financial strain on the independent bakery, which has served the Logan Square community for several years.
Neighborhood Support and Investigation
In response to the burglaries, local residents and regular patrons have rallied around the bakery, launching online fundraising campaigns and increasing their patronage to help offset the repair costs. Neighborhood groups are also calling for more proactive policing and community-led safety initiatives to protect small businesses from recurring theft.
The Chicago Police Department's property crimes division is investigating the incidents. Detectives are analyzing surveillance video from all three burglaries, looking for patterns that suggest the same individual is responsible for the recurring break-ins.
