Portadown Home Targeted in Burglary as Thieves Bypass Alarm System

Police in Portadown are investigating a burglary at a residential home where perpetrators went to significant lengths to bypass security. The incident, which took place on December 12, 2025, saw thieves smash a back door and vandalize an alarm box to gain entry.

The homeowners returned to find their property breached. It was determined that the suspects forced entry through the rear of the house and deliberately targeted the security system, rendering the alarm inactive. Officers have conducted a forensic sweep of the premises and are working to determine the full extent of the items stolen during the break-in.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson said, "The methods used in this burglary indicate that the perpetrators were determined to avoid detection. We are appealing to anyone in the local community who may have heard or seen anything unusual, particularly around the rear of properties on December 12, to contact detectives. We also urge homeowners to ensure their alarm systems are secured and that any external sensors or boxes are robustly installed." Investigations are ongoing.
