Prolific burglar arrested following spree in Liverpool
Serial offender sentenced for business burglaries
According to an article published by Liverpoolecho on 15 January 2025, a prolific burglar has been sentenced following a series of break-ins targeting businesses across Liverpool. David McCouid, 40, was apprehended after a spree of burglaries and attempted burglaries that took place over several days in November of last year.
Liverpoolecho reports that McCouid targeted various commercial premises, including restaurants, a chemist, a beauty salon, and a barbershop. During one incident at Danny Mac's Tavern on Oldham Street, the defendant entered the pub on three separate occasions by smashing a window. When confronted by a member of staff during the final entry, McCouid reportedly told the bartender "nice one" before fleeing the scene.
The court heard that McCouid was subject to a criminal behaviour order at the time of the offences, which prohibited him from entering most of Liverpool city centre. He was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on 15 January 2025. The judge noted that the defendant had a significant history of previous convictions for domestic and non-domestic burglaries.
Business owners are encouraged to ensure that all entry points are properly secured and that alarm systems are regularly tested to deter unauthorized access.
