Property Owner Shoots Suspect During Attempted Westside Home Invasion

JACKSONVILLE, FL — An attempted home invasion on Jacksonville's Westside ended abruptly on Monday afternoon when a homeowner shot the intruder, police confirmed.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reported that officers arrived at the residential scene after receiving emergency calls regarding an attempted break-in. According to investigators, the suspect tried to force his way into the home. Faced with the threat, the homeowner discharged a firearm, hitting the suspect in the chest.

Suspect Hospitalized

The injured suspect was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services. Authorities reported that he is in critical condition. No one inside the home was physically harmed during the altercation.

JSO homicide and crime scene units responded to the address to process evidence and interview the homeowner. Detectives stated that, at this stage of the investigation, the homeowner appeared to have acted in self-defense. The identity of the suspect and the homeowner have not yet been released.
