Ram-raid burglary at a supermarket in Whetstone

ATM stolen in Whetstone ram-raid

According to Leicestermercury, a supermarket in Whetstone was targeted in a ram-raid burglary on 14 May 2025. Thieves drove a vehicle into the front of the Co-Op store located on Cambridge Road during the early hours of the morning.

Leicestermercury reports that the suspects removed an ATM from the premises and loaded it into a blue Toyota Hilux. The vehicle then fled the scene accompanied by a blue BMW. While departing the area, the Toyota Hilux collided with a stationary, unmarked police vehicle that was attending to an unrelated traffic stop. The officer inside the police car was not injured.

Leicestershire Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the two vehicles or noticed suspicious activity in the vicinity. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the authorities, quoting crime reference number 25*399816.

Business owners are encouraged to review their security measures, including the installation of reinforced bollards and high-definition surveillance systems, to deter unauthorized vehicle access.
