Ram-raid burglary at Co-Op store in Whetstone

According to an article published by Leicestermercury on 10 July 2025, two people have been arrested following a ram-raid at a Co-Op store located on Cambridge Road in Whetstone. The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 4am on Wednesday, 9 July.

Leicestermercury reports that a vehicle was driven into the front of the premises, allowing the suspects to remove the store's ATM. The cash machine was subsequently loaded into a blue Toyota Hilux, which fled the scene alongside a blue BMW. During the escape, the Toyota reportedly collided with an unmarked police vehicle, though no injuries were sustained by the officer involved.

Leicestershire Police have since arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of conspiring to commit burglary and attempted murder, and a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both remain in custody as the investigation continues. Authorities are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage of the two vehicles to contact the police.

Business owners are encouraged to review their physical security measures and consider installing bollards or reinforced barriers to prevent vehicle-based intrusions.
