Ram-raid burglary at Co-Op store in Whetstone

According to an article published by Leicestermercury on 10 July 2025, two people have been arrested in connection with a ram-raid at a Co-Op store in Whetstone. The incident occurred at approximately 4am on Wednesday, July 9, when a vehicle was driven into the front of the premises on Cambridge Road.

Leicestermercury reports that the ATM was removed from the store and loaded into a blue Toyota Hilux. This vehicle subsequently fled the scene alongside a blue BMW. During the incident, the Toyota reportedly collided with an unmarked police vehicle, though no injuries were sustained by the officer involved.

Leicestershire Police have confirmed the arrest of an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman. The man is being held on suspicion of conspiring to commit burglary and attempted murder, while the woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Authorities are currently appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the two vehicles to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Business owners are encouraged to review their security measures, including the installation of reinforced bollards to prevent vehicle-based access to storefronts.
