Renton Police Warn of Surging Mailbox Theft Ahead of Holiday Season
RENTON, WA — Residents of Renton are being escalated to take extra precautions after a sharp rise in mailbox thefts across the region. With the holiday season approaching, Renton police are warning that thieves are actively targeting residential mailboxes to steal checks, personal identification information, and packages.
According to police reports, multiple neighborhoods have reported instances of locking mailboxes being pried open or packages stolen directly from front porches. Law enforcement officials explain that holiday mail, which often contains gift cards, checks, and expensive purchases, is a prime target for opportunistic criminals.
To combat this wave of theft, the Renton Police Department recommends that residents collect their mail daily, use security cameras to monitor delivery areas, and consider upgrading to high-security locking mailboxes. Neighbors are also encouraged to watch out for each other and report any suspicious vehicles or individuals lingering near mailboxes immediately.
