According to an article published by the BBC on 31 December 2025, a residential burglary occurred at a property on Hollow Drive in Thornton, Sefton. Merseyside Police report that the incident took place between 16:00 GMT on 22 December and 12:00 on 28 December.

The BBC reports that several items were taken during the burglary, including a Samsung television and two Fossil watches—one pink gold with a blue flowered face and one blue and gold. Most notably, the intruders stole a dark green and black box containing the ashes of a family member. Detective Inspector Edward Barr described the event as a distressing experience for the victims, emphasizing the immeasurable sentimental value of the stolen ashes.

Police are currently appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area during the specified dates. Residents are encouraged to review any available CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage for suspicious activity that could assist the ongoing investigation.
