According to an article published on 17 June 2024 by Newsandstar, a residential burglary occurred in Whitehaven on 6 April. The intruder, identified as 35-year-old Daniel Rafferty, gained entry to the property while the occupant was working away.
Newsandstar reports that the defendant caused approximately £3,000 worth of damage to the home. The interior was left in a state of chaos, with cleaning products splattered across walls and furniture, artwork ripped down, and various household items strewn across the floor. In addition to the property damage, the intruder stole a set of car keys valued at £500.
The court heard that the incident was motivated by jealousy, as the victim is the current partner of the defendant's former girlfriend. Rafferty, who has a history of 23 previous offences, was apprehended following the incident. The victim reported significant psychological distress following the intrusion into his home.
