Rhyl man returns to prison after fish and chip shop break-in
A 53-year-old Rhyl resident has been returned to prison after pleading guilty to charges related to a break-in at a local fish and chip shop. Simon Petford, of Crescent Road, Rhyl, appeared before Llandudno Magistrates Court following a swift investigation by North Wales Police.
The Break-In
Police officers were called to the Town Fryer fish and chip shop on Wellington Road in Rhyl on the morning of Saturday, June 14, 2025. Reports indicated that the premises had been broken into and cash was stolen. Petford was subsequently arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary and criminal damage.
Legal Consequences
Following his arrest, Petford's license was revoked, resulting in his immediate recall to prison. At Llandudno Magistrates Court on June 16, 2025, he was sentenced to two weeks in prison for the criminal damage while investigation into the burglary remained ongoing. He was also ordered to pay ยฃ124 in compensation to the business owner.
