Robbers ordered to repay £754,000 following Ongar home raid
Court orders repayment for Ongar residential burglary
According to an article published by the Bbc on 19 May 2025, a group of men convicted of robbing the home of Olympic cyclist Sir Mark Cavendish in Ongar, Essex, must repay £754,525. The intruders, identified as Romario Henry, Ali Sesay, and Jo Jobson, broke into the athlete's residence while he and his family were asleep. During the raid, which occurred on 27 November 2021, the perpetrators held the cyclist at knifepoint and assaulted him.
Bbc reports that the stolen items included two high-value Richard Mille watches, three phones, a Louis Vuitton suitcase, and a safe. While the defendants are currently serving prison sentences ranging from 12 to 15 years, Judge Alexander Mills has ruled that they must pay the specified sum within three months or face an additional six years in prison each. The court noted that the two luxury watches, valued at £750,000 combined, remain missing. The judge emphasized that the defendants acted in concert and benefited financially from the crime. Compensation was also ordered for the victims and the company that leased the watches.
