Robbery at a betting shop in Cambridge

According to an article published by Cambridgenews on 18 July 2025, police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a betting shop in Cambridge. The incident occurred at the Betfred premises on Burleigh Street shortly after 9pm on Thursday, 17 July.

Cambridgenews reports that a man entered the shop and demanded cash. While the suspect claimed to be in possession of a knife, police stated that no weapon was actually seen during the encounter. The individual was handed approximately £2,500 in cash before fleeing through the back of the building.

The suspect is described as a tall, white man in his late 30s with a white beard. He was wearing a black hoody and a black snood covering most of his face, and he was carrying a black bag. Detective Constable Callum Fullwood of the Southern Acquisitive Crime Team has requested that anyone with relevant information, CCTV, or dashcam footage contact the authorities, quoting reference 35/53443/25.

Business owners are encouraged to review their security protocols and ensure that staff are trained in emergency response procedures to minimize risk during potential confrontations.
