According to an article published by Hartlepoolmail on 29 September 2025, a man has been sentenced to two years in prison following a robbery at a newsagents in the Stranton area of Hartlepool. The incident occurred on 16 June 2025.
Hartlepoolmail reports that Tyler Cannon, 26, entered the store and engaged a female assistant in conversation before demanding the till. When the staff member attempted to hold onto the equipment, Cannon produced a knife to cut the power cable. He subsequently fled the premises with the till, which contained a small amount of cash.

Police later located Cannon at a property where the empty till and a machete were recovered. Cannon, of Suggitt Street, pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article. In his sentencing, Judge Richard Clews noted the severe impact the crime had on the victim.
