Robbery at Hotway Takeaway in Leadgate
Incident at Hotway Takeaway in Leadgate
According to an article published on 22 April 2026 by Northernecho, a series of robberies took place outside the Hotway Takeaway on Front Street, Leadgate. Brandon Luke Fettis and accomplices targeted customers waiting for their food, threatening to set fire to their vehicle.
Northernecho reports that the perpetrators demanded cash from the driver and a passenger, leading the victims to a nearby cash machine. During the encounter, the victims were subjected to physical assaults, including punches, and the passenger was struck in the face. After failing to steal the vehicle due to an ignition issue, the group fled on foot, having successfully taken cash from the victims. Fettis also caused criminal damage by kicking and smashing a headlight on the car.
Fettis, 28, was later identified via CCTV and arrested. He appeared at Durham Crown Court, where he admitted to two counts of robbery and one count of criminal damage. The court heard that the defendant’s actions were linked to a severe addiction to crack cocaine.
Business owners are encouraged to install high-quality CCTV systems and ensure staff are trained on emergency procedures to enhance site security.
