Rockford Police Arrest Suspects in Separate Gas Station Armed Robberies

ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Rockford Police Department has announced arrests in separate armed robbery incidents targeting local gas stations, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat commercial retail theft and gun violence in the area.

In the first case, a local felon was arrested and charged with armed robbery and unlawful possession of a controlled substance following a heist at a Citgo Gas Station in Rockford. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an armed subject demanding money from the cashier. Upon apprehending the suspect nearby, officers recovered a firearm along with narcotics in the suspect's possession. Due to a prior felony record, the individual faces enhanced charges under Illinois law.

In a subsequent incident, Rockford police took two local teenagers into custody. The teens, whose names have been withheld due to their juvenile status, are accused of robbing another local gas station at gunpoint. Investigators utilized surveillance video to locate the minors, recovering a loaded handgun during the arrests. Both juveniles have been booked into the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon.

Police Chief Carla Redd noted that the department is continuing to step up patrols around convenience stores and service stations during late-night hours. Investigators are looking into whether these suspects are connected to other unsolved robberies in Winnebago County.
