Rogers Park Home Invasion Suspect Arrested After Attempted Sexual Assault Spree
CHICAGO, IL — A community-wide alert and intensive police investigation have led to the arrest and charging of a suspect accused in a terrifying series of home invasions, attempted burglaries, and attempted criminal sexual assaults in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood and neighboring Evanston.
The crime wave began in the early hours of Friday, October 10, 2025. According to investigators, the suspect first attempted a break-in and assault in Evanston before moving south into Chicago. At approximately 4:45 a.m., the offender forced entry into a residence located on the 2000 block of Lunt Avenue in Rogers Park. Once inside, he confronted a female resident and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim bravely fought back, resisting the intruder and forcing him to flee the home.
Chicago police linked this home invasion to at least two other attempted burglaries that occurred in the immediate vicinity on the same morning. In response, the Chicago Police Department issued a community alert describing the suspect as a Hispanic male between 19 and 25 years old with curly hair, wearing a black hoodie with "USMC" in gold lettering and another light-colored hoodie wrapped around his waist.
Following a rapid investigation, police arrested 21-year-old Yeison Diaz-Gomez in late October 2025. Diaz-Gomez has been charged with multiple felonies, including home invasion, attempted criminal sexual assault, and burglary. The Rogers Park community, which had been on high alert following the incident, expressed relief at the arrest, while safety advocates continue to emphasize the importance of home security measures.
