Ruman Chai Shai Restaurant Burglarized in North Side Overnight Break-In
CHICAGO, IL — Police are investigating an overnight commercial burglary that targeted Ruman Chai Shai, a popular South Asian and Middle Eastern restaurant on Chicago's North Side. The break-in, which occurred during the early morning hours, left the local establishment with a shattered front entrance and stolen property.
According to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded to a call regarding a commercial burglary on the 6300 block of North Artesian Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the front glass door of the restaurant had been completely shattered. Suspects had entered the building, targeted the register area, and fled the scene with cash assets before police could be dispatched.
Ruman Chai Shai is known in the West Ridge/North Side community for its traditional tea (chai) and specialty dishes, serving as a gathering spot for local residents. The incident has contributed to mounting frustration among North Side small business owners who have faced a rise in quick-strike commercial burglaries. Community members are advocating for increased city support for security upgrades and stronger police presence in neighborhood commercial corridors.
Area Three detectives are leading the investigation and are working to secure security camera footage from the restaurant and surrounding properties. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident or suspicious activity on North Artesian Avenue during the early morning hours to contact investigators.
