Serial burglar sentenced for Northampton crime spree
According to an article published by the BBC on 29 October 2025, a 39-year-old man has been sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison for a series of burglaries committed in Northampton. Colin Mosdell admitted to 15 offences, including seven counts of burglary, committed between 21 and 25 March.
The BBC reports that Mosdell targeted several commercial and public locations, including a McDonald's at St James Retail Park, where he gained access to an employee area to steal personal items. Other incidents included the theft of rucksacks from the county cricket club in Abington, an unattended bag from a university campus, and bank cards from an office on Wellingborough Road. Additionally, Mosdell stole car keys from a doctor's surgery on King Edward Road, which he used to take a vehicle. The defendant also admitted to fraud by false representation and driving offences.
PC Christina Cooper of Northamptonshire Police stated that the sentence reflects the force's commitment to taking offenders off the streets. Business owners are encouraged to ensure that staff-only areas are kept secure and that personal belongings are never left unattended in workspaces.
