Shop robbery and violent disorder in East Grinstead

Violent robbery at East Grinstead shop

According to an article published by Theargus on 22 October 2025, a man has been sentenced to prison following a knifepoint robbery at a shop in London Road, East Grinstead. Bailey Crowhurst, 21, entered the premises on 27 July 2024 and threatened a staff member with a large knife, stating he would cut off their hands. The perpetrator stole alcohol and tobacco before fleeing the scene.

Theargus reports that Crowhurst was involved in a second incident on 30 September 2024 at a local petrol station. During this altercation, he acted aggressively, throwing approximately 15 wine bottles and smashing fridge doors. Following his arrest, Crowhurst appeared at Lewes Crown Court on 3 October, where he admitted to charges including robbery, possession of a knife, and affray. He received a five-year prison sentence, with an additional three-year extended sentence for dangerousness.

Sussex Police stated that tackling retail crime remains a priority and they continue to work with partner agencies to support staff and ensure incidents are reported. Business owners are encouraged to review their security protocols and staff safety training regularly to mitigate risks during opening hours.
