Shrewsbury firm forced to cut back after £20k bikes theft
A specialist retail firm in Shrewsbury has been dealt a severe financial blow after a targeted heist resulted in the theft of £20,000 worth of high-end bicycles. The incident has forced the business owners to implement immediate budget cuts and suspend plans for seasonal recruitment.
The burglary, which occurred during the early hours of the morning, saw thieves breach the shop's security systems. The perpetrators selectively targeted high-value electric bikes and custom road bicycles, suggesting they had pre-selected their targets. CCTV footage shows several masked individuals loading the bikes into a large commercial van before driving off.
A Heavy Financial and Operational Blow
The business owner spoke of the difficult road ahead: "For a small independent business, a loss of this scale is absolutely devastating. While we have insurance, the payout will take time, and our premiums will inevitably rise. We've had to make the difficult decision to scale back our operations, cancel upcoming community events, and hold off on hiring new staff members we had planned to bring on."
Shropshire business leaders have voiced solidarity with the firm, highlighting the growing concern over organized commercial burglaries in the county. West Mercia Police are reviewing security footage and appealing to anyone who might have been offered high-end bikes at suspiciously low prices to come forward.
