Sledgehammer-Wielding Thieves Smash Into David Harvey Jewelers in Darien

DARIEN, CT — A high-end jewelry store in Darien was the target of a brazen, smash-and-grab heist early Friday morning, when a group of thieves used a sledgehammer to break into the storefront.

According to the Darien Police Department, officers responded to an alarm at David Harvey Jewelers on Post Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the front glass window of the establishment had been completely shattered. Surveillance footage obtained from the store shows four masked individuals executing the break-in.

In the security video, the suspects can be seen repeatedly striking the reinforced glass window with a sledgehammer until it gave way. Once inside, they quickly smashed several glass display cases and swept luxury jewelry items into bags. The entire operation was completed within a few minutes before the suspects fled the scene in a waiting vehicle.

Police are reviewing the surveillance footage and working with neighboring law enforcement agencies to identify the vehicle and track down the suspects. The total value of the stolen merchandise is still being calculated, but it is expected to be substantial. Local business owners have been advised to remain vigilant as the investigation continues.
