Smash-and-Grab Burglaries and Gunfire Incidents Shake Portage Park Community

Residents and business owners in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood are on alert after a series of criminal incidents, including a smash-and-grab burglary at a store on Milwaukee Avenue and reports of gunfire on nearby Mason Avenue.

In the first incident, suspects targeted a retail store on Milwaukee Avenue, breaking the storefront window to gain access to the merchandise inside. The burglars fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of property before law enforcement could arrive. The incident follows a reports of gunfire on the 5700 block of North Mason Avenue last week, further heightening concerns about community safety in the neighborhood.

Local community organizations and the Chicago Police Department are working together to increase patrols in the commercial corridors and encourage residents to share any video footage that could assist in identifying the perpetrators.
