Smash-and-grab burglars hit two Chicago liquor stores within ninety minutes

CHICAGO — Chicago police are investigating after two liquor stores on the city's South Side were targeted by smash-and-grab burglars within an hour and a half of each other on Monday, May 27, 2024.

According to police reports, the first incident took place at a liquor store in the Ashburn neighborhood. Surveillance footage showed the suspects driving a vehicle through the storefront to shatter the security glass. The perpetrators quickly entered, looted the displays, and fled with cash and high-end liquor.

Shortly thereafter, a second smash-and-grab burglary occurred at a liquor store in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. Business owners have voiced their concern over the brazen nature of these crimes and the extensive damage caused to their facilities. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from both locations to identify the suspects and determine if the same crew is responsible for both incidents. No arrests have been reported.
