Son jailed for burglary at parents' home in Middlesbrough
Residential burglary in Middlesbrough
According to an article published on 3 August 2025 by Gazettelive, a Middlesbrough man has been sentenced to 27 months in prison following a burglary at his parents' home. John West, 46, committed the offence on 25 February under the cover of darkness.
Teesside Crown Court heard that after being remanded to Holme House Prison, West made phone calls to his parents, urging them to drop their statements to avoid a potential four-year sentence. Prosecutors presented transcripts of these calls, which led to additional charges of perverting the course of public justice.
During the proceedings, the court was informed that West has 48 previous convictions for 84 offences, including dishonesty and shop theft. His defence counsel noted that the defendant has struggled with a long-term drug addiction and recent personal bereavements. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed a five-year restraining order to prevent West from initiating contact with his parents. The Crown Prosecution Service withdrew a separate charge of harassment.
