Southport Unrest: Teenager Charged with Burglary and Violent Disorder
An ongoing investigation by Merseyside Police has resulted in another teenager being charged with burglary and violent disorder in connection with the Southport disturbances.
The charges relate to the serious public disorder that occurred in Southport on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, following a tragic knife attack in the town. During the unrest, a group of individuals engaged in violent confrontations, damaged property, and burglarized local commercial premises.
Following extensive reviews of CCTV footage and forensic evidence, detectives identified and arrested the teenager. On Friday, September 27, 2024, police confirmed the youth had been formally charged with both violent disorder and commercial burglary.
Merseyside Police's dedicated investigation team has continued to systematically track down those involved in the violence and looting. “We remain committed to identifying every individual who participated in the unacceptable scenes of violence and criminal damage in our community,” a police spokesperson stated.
The teenager is scheduled to appear before a youth court, and the police have urged anyone with additional video footage or information regarding the summer unrest to contact them or report anonymously to Crimestoppers.
