Stolen Heavy Equipment Used in ATM Heist at Colorado Springs Bank

An unusual and destructive robbery has left a Colorado Springs bank with significant structural damage after suspect(s) utilized a heavy construction vehicle to steal an outdoor automated teller machine (ATM) in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to details released by the Colorado Springs Police Department, a front-end loader was reported stolen from a nearby construction site. The heavy machinery was then driven directly to the bank premises, where the operator used the loader’s hydraulic arms to tear the ATM completely free from its concrete anchoring. The suspect then loaded the machine, containing an undisclosed amount of cash, and fled the scene before police could arrive.

Police discovered the abandoned front-end loader a short distance away from the scene of the crime, but the suspect and the cash-filled ATM remain at large. Crime scene investigators have collected forensic evidence from the vehicle and the bank property. Detectives are urging anyone who may have witnessed a front-end loader driving on city streets during the night, or who has relevant security footage, to contact the local crime stoppers line.
