String of Vernon card shop break-ins ‘seem like malicious attack’
VERNON, Connecticut — A local business specializing in collectible card games and sports memorabilia has been targeted in a series of break-ins that the owners describe as feeling less like random burglaries and more like a targeted, malicious campaign.
Targeted Thefts and Significant Damage
According to police and store management, the establishments were breached under the cover of night, with the perpetrators bypassing standard security measures to access high-value inventory. Rather than grabbing random items, the thieves selectively focused on premium collectible card sets, including rare Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and sports cards, leaving other valuable electronics and cash registers untouched.
"The way they entered and the specific items they targeted suggest they knew exactly what they were looking for and where to find it," said the store owner. "It feels less like a typical robbery and more like a direct, malicious attack to disrupt our business and deplete our most valuable stock."
Investigation Underway
The Vernon Police Department has launched an active investigation into the break-ins. Detectives are currently reviewing security footage from the premises and surrounding businesses to identify suspect vehicles and individuals. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or who has been offered high-value collectible cards at unusually low prices to contact investigators immediately.
"We are following several leads and analyzing forensic evidence collected at the scenes. We take commercial burglaries very seriously, especially when a single business is repeatedly victimized." — Vernon Police Department Representative
Local collectors and community members have rallied around the business, offering support and keeping a lookout on online marketplaces where the stolen merchandise might be listed for sale.
