Supermarket burglar jailed following two roof break-ins in Uddingston

Two burglaries at Uddingston supermarket

According to an article published on 11 May 2026 by Glasgowtimes, a 31-year-old man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after targeting a Tesco supermarket in Uddingston twice. The individual, identified as Dylan Hay, admitted to forcing entry through the roof of the Bothwell Road premises on two separate occasions.

Glasgowtimes reports that during the first incident on November 24, the perpetrator gained access via a skylight and stole ยฃ300 in cash from an office. The repair costs for the damage caused during this break-in amounted to ยฃ1,000. On February 5, Hay returned to the store, this time forcing open a ventilation shaft to enter the warehouse area, where he stole vodka and whisky valued at ยฃ400.

Following his arrest on February 11, Hay appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where he also admitted to spitting on a police officer's boot. Sheriff Colin Dunipace imposed the custodial sentence citing the defendant's previous convictions for crimes of dishonesty. The defence noted that the offender had been experiencing homelessness at the time of the offences.

Ensure that all roof access points, skylights, and ventilation shafts are properly secured and monitored by alarm systems to prevent unauthorized entry.
