Surveillance Video Captures Overnight Break-In at Cafe Utjeha in Lincoln Square

CHICAGO — Security camera footage captured the moment a lone burglar broke into Cafe Utjeha, a popular community coffee shop in the Lincoln Square neighborhood, highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by small neighborhood businesses.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday. Chicago Police responded to reports of a commercial burglary on the North Side. The surveillance video shows the suspect approach the cafe, shatter the glass entrance door, and quickly climb through the opening. Once inside, the intruder made a direct line for the cash register, taking the cash drawer and scanning the counter area for other electronics and valuables.

The owner of Cafe Utjeha shared the video to raise awareness and help identify the suspect. Neighbors and patrons of the cafe have expressed dismay and support for the business, which serves as a local gathering spot in Lincoln Square.
