Suspect Apprehended After Stealing Thousands in Cambridge Post Office Burglary
CAMBRIDGE, MA — A man has been arrested in connection with a major burglary at a Cambridge post office that resulted in the theft of thousands of dollars. The incident occurred on March 20, 2026, prompting a swift response from local police officers and federal inspectors.
According to police reports, the suspect managed to gain unauthorized entry to the postal facility during non-business hours. Once inside, the individual located and breached secure areas containing cash deposits and money orders, fleeing the scene with a significant amount of currency. The break-in was discovered early in the morning by arriving postal workers, who immediately notified law enforcement.
Following a rapid investigation aided by security camera footage, officers located and arrested the suspect later that day. A portion of the stolen funds was recovered at the time of the arrest. The individual faces charges of breaking and entering, grand larceny, and malicious destruction of property, with federal charges also being considered due to the facility's status.
“Burglarizing a post office is a serious offense that impacts the entire community,” said an investigating officer. “Our collaboration with postal inspectors allowed us to identify and apprehend the suspect before he could flee the area.”
The suspect is scheduled to appear in district court for a preliminary hearing later this week.
