Suspect arrested after sleeping at Newark burglary scene

Burglary suspect found asleep at Newark property

According to an article published by Newarkadvertiser on 2 April 2026, Nottinghamshire Police have arrested a 24-year-old man following a burglary at a private home in Newark.

Officers responded to reports of a break-in at approximately 3:15 am on 1 April. Upon arrival, they observed that a window had been smashed. Suspecting that an intruder remained inside the premises, officers entered the property to conduct a search. They discovered the suspect sleeping on a floor bed in one of the rooms. After confirming the individual was not the homeowner, police arrested him on suspicion of burglary.

Inspector Dale Smith of Nottinghamshire Police commended the responding officers for their swift action in apprehending the suspect while the incident was still in progress. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Ensure all windows and doors are securely locked and consider installing a monitored alarm system to deter unauthorized entry.
