Suspect Arrested and Indicted for Armed Jewelry Store Robbery in Chestnut Commons

ELYRIA, Ohio โ€” A local man faces federal and state charges after an armed robbery at Kay Jewelers in Chestnut Commons resulted in the theft of more than $62,000 worth of merchandise.

The robbery occurred on the afternoon of October 14, 2025, when a masked suspect entered the Kay Jewelers store located at 550 Chestnut Commons Drive in Elyria. Brandishing what was later suspected to be a BB or pellet gun, the robber ordered employees to open display cases. He then loaded 43 pieces of high-value jewelry into a bag and fled the premises.

Identification and Police Investigation

Detectives with the Elyria Police Department launched an intensive investigation, analyzing store surveillance footage and gathering physical evidence discarded near the scene. A key break in the case occurred when investigators identified a black Ford Ranger pickup truck used during the getaway, which was linked to 37-year-old Elyria resident Brian M. Foster.

Following eight days of tracking, police located and arrested Foster. Newly released bodycam footage shows the moment officers surrounded and detained the suspect without incident.

Grand Jury Indictment and Federal Charges

In December 2025, a Lorain County grand jury returned a multi-count indictment against Foster, charging him with aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence, grand theft, and possession of criminal tools. The state charges also carry firearm specifications. In addition, Foster faces federal charges for interference with commerce by robbery under the Hobbs Act.

Foster remains held in the Lorain County Jail on a $750,000 bond as legal proceedings continue.
