Suspect Detained Following Burglary at Home of Slain UNLV Professor Naoko Takemaru

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a woman in connection with the burglary of the home of Naoko Takemaru, a beloved University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) professor who was killed during the tragic active shooter incident on campus in December 2023.

Authorities confirmed that the burglary occurred shortly after the shooting, while the community was still mourning the loss of the three faculty members. Responding to reports of suspicious activity at the residence, officers discovered that the home had been entered and ransacked.

Suspect Detained and Charged

Following a prompt investigation, police identified and detained a female suspect. Neighbors and community members expressed outrage and sadness that the home of a deceased shooting victim would be targeted in such a manner.
