Suspect Wanted for String of Walgreens Cigarette Robberies Across Chicago Since January

CHICAGO — Chicago police have issued a citywide warning as they search for a suspect linked to a string of robberies targeting Walgreens pharmacies across the city since early January 2025. The suspect's primary target during these thefts has been retail cigarettes.

Serial Robber Targets Walgreens Pharmacies

According to police reports, the individual has hit several Walgreens locations, particularly on the city's Northwest Side. The modus operandi involves entering the stores, approaching the checkout counters, and demanding packages of cigarettes while gesturing or indicating he has a weapon. In several instances, the suspect has successfully jumped over the counter to retrieve the cartons himself before fleeing on foot or in a nearby vehicle.

The robberies have caused concern among store employees and customers. In response, Walgreens management has been cooperating closely with local law enforcement, providing surveillance footage from multiple locations to help identify the perpetrator.

Investigation and Police Appeal

Detectives have compiled descriptions of the suspect from various security cameras. He is believed to be responsible for at least half a dozen incidents spanning from January through April 2025. The Chicago Police Department has asked business owners and the public to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior near retail pharmacies.
