Suspected Burglar Shot and Killed by Alert Neighbors in Alief Home Invasion Attempt

HOUSTON, Texas — A suspected burglar was shot and killed Friday morning in the Alief area of southwest Houston after local residents intervened in an ongoing home invasion, according to the Houston Police Department.

The incident unfolded around 7:30 a.m. on June 12, 2026. Police reported that an alert neighbor noticed two suspicious individuals breaking into a nearby residence via security camera footage. The home was unoccupied at the time, as the elderly homeowner had recently relocated to an assisted living facility. The neighbor immediately notified other residents in the close-knit neighborhood, prompting two brothers to investigate and confront the suspects.

As the brothers approached the scene, the two suspects attempted to flee, jumping a fence to escape. A physical confrontation ensued between the brothers and the fleeing suspects. During the altercation, one of the brothers discharged a firearm, striking one of the suspects. The wounded suspect was later pronounced dead, while the second suspect managed to evade capture and remains at large.

Houston Police Department homicide detectives questioned the two brothers involved in the shooting. As of the latest updates, no charges have been filed, and the case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury to determine whether the shooting was justified under Texas law.
