Taco Restaurant on West 63rd Street Burglarized in Chicago Lawn Neighborhood

CHICAGO, IL — A commercial burglary at a taco restaurant on West 63rd Street has prompted a response from the Chicago Police Department. The incident occurred overnight on March 30, 2025, in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, coinciding with a similar burglary at another taco eatery on South Kedzie Avenue.

Overnight Break-in Details

According to police reports, the culprits pried open a rear door to gain access to the kitchen and dining areas of the restaurant. Once inside, they ransacked the office drawers, located a safe, and made off with an undisclosed sum of money along with some valuable equipment. The staff noticed the entry early the following morning and immediately contacted law enforcement.

Ongoing Investigation

No suspects are currently in custody, and Area One detectives are actively reviewing the case. Police are looking at the similarities between the two incidents in Chicago Lawn to determine if they were executed by the same group of offenders. Anyone with information or security camera footage is encouraged to share it with the police.

Local business groups are coordinating to discuss security measures, suggesting that additional lighting in alleyways and shared cameras could help prevent future break-ins in the business district.
