Teen Arrested for Armed Robbery of Gainesville Smoke Shop Near University Campus

GAINESVILLE, Florida — A 19-year-old Gainesville man is facing felony charges after allegedly conducting an armed robbery at a smoke shop located on University Avenue, just steps away from the University of Florida campus. The swift arrest occurred shortly after employees at the Wildside Smoke Shop reported the terrifying encounter to local emergency dispatchers.

The incident unfolded when the suspect entered the Wildside Smoke Shop and brandished a weapon, demanding merchandise and cash from the store clerks on duty. Employees complied with the demands and immediately contacted the Gainesville Police Department as soon as the suspect left the premises. Due to the store's proximity to the university campus, officers quickly flooded the area.

Gainesville Police officers located and detained a suspect matching the description provided by the store employees. The 19-year-old was positively identified and subsequently arrested. He has been charged with armed robbery and is currently held at the Alachua County Jail.
