Theft at Cash Converters in Newark

According to an article published by Newarkadvertiser on 11 October 2024, Nottinghamshire Police have secured a conviction following a theft at the Cash Converters store located on Cartergate, Newark.

On 1 October, 36-year-old Christopher Jenkins-Coupe entered the premises and removed three mobile phones from a staff-only area behind the counter. The stolen items were valued at a combined total of £1,600. The incident was subsequently reported to the police by store staff.

Jenkins-Coupe was later identified by officers on 8 October while they were responding to an unrelated report in the Church Walk area. Following his arrest, he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 9 October, where he pleaded guilty to multiple counts of theft. He was issued a one-year community order, which includes a six-month alcohol treatment requirement and 20 rehabilitation activity days. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £1,600 in compensation.

Business owners are encouraged to restrict access to staff-only areas and ensure high-value inventory is securely stored to prevent unauthorized removal.
