Thieves caught on video ransacking Near North Side liquor store

CHICAGO (CBS) — Security footage has captured the moment a group of thieves ransacked a liquor store on Chicago's Near North Side early Thursday morning, leaving the business with significant property damage and a substantial loss of inventory.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on July 11, 2024. The surveillance video shows several individuals arriving at the scene in a getaway vehicle. The suspects quickly breached the front entrance of the establishment and entered the store in a coordinated rush.

Once inside, the individuals grabbed high-value bottles of alcohol, emptied cash registers, and swept display items into bags. The entire incident lasted only a few minutes before the group fled the scene. Business owners in the area have expressed growing concern over a pattern of similar burglaries targeting local retailers. Area Three detectives are currently investigating the break-in, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the department. No suspects are in custody at this time.
