Thieves Smash Into South Side Business to Target ATM, Chicago Police Say

CHICAGO, IL — A South Side commercial property was targeted by smash-and-grab burglars who forced entry into the building to steal from the automated teller machine inside, Chicago police confirmed.

The incident occurred during the early hours when suspects breached the exterior storefront. According to police, the offenders targeted the business's ATM, utilizing tools to break into the machine's cash vault or removing the entire unit from the premises. The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle before patrol officers arrived.

Area Detectives are investigating the burglary and checking nearby security systems for any footage of the suspect vehicle or the individuals involved. Business owners on the South Side are urged to exercise caution and ensure their security alarm systems and high-definition cameras are fully operational.
