Thieves Use SUV in Smash-and-Grab ATM Theft at Lincoln Park Go Grocer

CHICAGO — Police are investigating a dramatic commercial burglary in the Lincoln Park neighborhood where thieves utilized a vehicle to break into a business and steal an ATM early Tuesday morning.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident took place at the Go Grocer location on Diversey. A group of suspects drove an SUV directly into the building, shattering the front entrance and creating a large opening to gain entry. Once inside, the burglars successfully removed the store's automated teller machine (ATM) and loaded it into a vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The crash caused substantial structural damage to the convenience store's facade. CPD Area Three Detectives are investigating the smash-and-grab, looking into whether this incident is connected to similar ATM thefts in the area. No suspects are currently in custody.
