Third Business Targeted as Burglary Spree Hits Famous Historic York Street

A commercial burglary spree on one of York's most famous and historic shopping streets has claimed a third victim, police have confirmed. The series of break-ins has sparked serious concern among local merchants who operate along the heavily touristed thoroughfare.

The latest incident follows two similar break-ins reported earlier in the week, pointing to a coordinated effort by thieves targeting the street's boutique shops. In each case, entry was forced overnight, with cash registers and high-value display goods being the primary targets.

North Yorkshire Police have stepped up both plainclothes and high-visibility patrols in the city center. A police spokesperson remarked: "We are treating these incidents as linked and are working closely with local business owners to gather evidence and review security measures."

Business owners on the famous street are calling for improved street lighting and a more robust CCTV network to deter further criminal activity. Police are urging anyone with information, or who may have witnessed suspicious behavior in the area overnight, to contact them immediately.
