Trio Accused of Theft at Naperville Nike Store, Leading Police on Chase to Chicago
NAPERVILLE, Ill. โ A retail theft at a local Naperville sporting goods store escalated into a multi-jurisdictional police pursuit on Thursday, culminating in the apprehension of three suspects in Chicago.
According to authorities, the incident began during the afternoon of April 10, 2025, when officers with the Naperville Police Department were dispatched to the Nike store following reports of a retail theft in progress. Store staff reported that three individuals had entered the establishment, gathered merchandise, and exited the premises without making any attempt to pay for the items.
Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers spotted the suspects fleeing in a getaway vehicle. When police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over, accelerating away and initiating a high-speed pursuit. The chase traveled eastbound on local highways and expressways, eventually leading officers into the city limits of Chicago.
State and local law enforcement agencies, including the Illinois State Police, assisted in tracking the vehicle as it traversed the metro area. The pursuit came to an end in Chicago, where officers were able to successfully block the vehicle and take all three occupants into custody without further incident. The stolen Nike merchandise was recovered from the vehicle and returned to the retailer.
Charges against the three suspects, whose identities have not yet been fully released pending formal arraignment, are expected to include retail theft, felony fleeing and eluding, and various traffic offenses. Police have noted that retail theft operations of this nature continue to be a focus of regional task forces aimed at curbing organized retail crime in the Chicago suburbs.
