Two Individuals Charged Following Christmas Day Break-In at Boscov’s Store in Scranton

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania — Two suspects are facing burglary and criminal trespass charges after allegedly breaking into the Boscov's department store on Christmas Day, according to Scranton police. The holiday break-in triggered silent store alarms, allowing police to respond and secure the perimeter before the suspects could escape.

The incident occurred on December 25, when the store was closed to the public for the Christmas holiday. According to police records, security monitoring systems detected unauthorized movement inside the retail establishment and immediately alerted the local police department. Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and observed signs of forced entry at one of the store's primary access points.

A K-9 unit and tactical officers entered the dark building to conduct a systematic search. The two suspects were located hiding in a retail section of the store, surrounded by merchandise they had allegedly gathered to steal. Both individuals were detained without incident. Investigators noted that the quick response of the alarm company and local patrol units prevented significant property loss or damage to the business.

The suspects have been identified and formally charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, and conspiracy. Following their arrest, they were arraigned and lodged in the county jail in lieu of bail. Boscov's management expressed appreciation for the rapid response of the Scranton Police Department, emphasizing that their security protocols worked exactly as intended to protect the store's assets during the holiday shutdown.
