Two Men Jailed After Nottinghamshire Home Invasion Forces Victim to Leap From Window

Two men have been sentenced to significant prison terms following a violent burglary in Canterbury Close, Nuthall, which left a resident with a broken leg after he leaped from a first-floor window to escape the masked intruders.

The incident occurred on June 25, 2025. John McNee, 46, of Tunstall Crescent, Nottingham, and Craig Morgan, 53, of Lymn Avenue, Gedling, forced entry into the property wearing balaclavas and gloves. Confronted in his own home, the terrified occupant jumped from an upstairs window in a desperate bid to escape, resulting in a serious leg fracture.

The intruders attempted to steal a high-value vehicle parked on the victim's driveway but were unsuccessful. They eventually fled the scene with ยฃ500 in cash and a mobile phone. Nottinghamshire Police tracked the suspects down using CCTV footage, mobile phone telemetry, and analysis of a stolen vehicle used during the crime.

Sentences Handed Down at Nottingham Crown Court

At Nottingham Crown Court, both men pleaded guilty to burglary. McNee, who also admitted to witness intimidation after contacting a relative of the victim, and a separate burglary in Nottingham city centre in September 2023, was sentenced to nine years in prison. Morgan received a five-year prison sentence.

Detective Constable Tony Tonks of Nottinghamshire Police commented on the case: "This was a frightening experience for the victim who was simply going about his daily business when he was confronted in his own home by masked men. Both thought they could simply take what they wanted from this man without consequence, but hadn't reckoned on the determination of multiple detectives, analysts, and other specialist staff."
