U-Haul Truck Crashed Into Family Dollar in ATM Smash-and-Grab Burglaries
ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta police are investigating a series of destructive smash-and-grab burglaries that target local retail establishments, including a Family Dollar store. The perpetrators utilized a commercial rental vehicle to breach the storefronts, causing severe structural damage and disabling security measures to access ATM machines inside.
According to investigators, the suspects drove a rented U-Haul truck directly through the front entrance of the Family Dollar store, shattering the glass storefront and bending metal security grates. Once inside, the group quickly targeted the store's automated teller machine (ATM), attempting to load it into the vehicle before fleeing the scene. A second nearby business was targeted in a nearly identical manner during the same night, suggesting a coordinated crew specializing in vehicle-assisted commercial burglaries.
Business owners in the affected areas are expressing concern over the sheer force used during the break-ins, which have left behind thousands of dollars in property damage. The Atlanta Police Department is reviewing security camera footage from the businesses and surrounding areas to trace the U-Haul truck's path and identify the suspects involved in the heist. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives.
