Unsuccessful Break-In Attempt at Lidl Supermarket in Inverness Prompts Police Appeal

Detectives in Inverness have launched an appeal for information following an unsuccessful break-in attempt at the Lidl supermarket store. The incident has prompted police to ask the local community for assistance in identifying potential suspects or vehicles seen in the vicinity around the time of the event.

According to initial reports, the attempt took place in the early hours of Thursday, 25 April 2024. Officers were called to the retail site on Telford Street after alarms were activated. Upon arrival, police established that entry to the supermarket had not been gained, though damage was caused to the exterior structure and security systems during the attempted breach.

Detective officers are currently reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the store and surrounding businesses. They are eager to speak to anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity, seen any unfamiliar vehicles parked nearby, or captured dashcam footage in the area during the early morning hours.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated: "We are currently investigating an attempted break-in at a commercial premises on Telford Street, Inverness, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 25 April. We urge anyone with information, or anyone who was driving in the area and may have dashcam footage, to contact us immediately to assist with our enquiries."

In response to the incident, local security patrols have been stepped up in retail parks across the Highland capital to deter further commercial burglaries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via the 101 non-emergency number, quoting the relevant incident reference, or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
